Aggregate Patio Contractor - Rocklin, California - (916) 473-4001
For every construction in your home involving concrete, you have an opportunity to pick a finish design. For spectacular outdoor spaces, exposed aggregate couldn’t be better. Aggregate designs are also perfect for contrasting other types of finishes. This type of finish involves sand and gravel incorporated into concrete, giving it more strength. Stamped and broom finishes conceal annoying pieces of gravel in the concrete while exposed aggregate finish eliminates the smooth part on top of the surface, leaving pieces of gravel on the surface. Making Decorative Aggregate Patio
Once you make an order from our company, we will set up a process for exposed aggregate.
1. Prep work
Concrete forms for the patio are built with 2 by 4s. Stakes and poles are used to secure the forms. The aggregate should be ready and washed to remove any sediment. All equipment for the job are provided in advance in order to save time.
2. Concrete Pouring
Concrete is poured early enough on the prepared forms preferably in the morning. A concrete mixer is used to mix it in the right manner. It is poured in batches to fill all forms.
3. Spreading the Aggregate
The concrete mixture is allowed enough time to set and then the decorative aggregate broadcast evenly on the surface. Direct pouring is avoided but seeding motion applied for uniformity. Brushes and brooms are used to level the aggregate.
4. Pressing the Aggregate
Rollers are used to press aggregate into the concrete while they are wet. Moisture prevents rollers from collecting aggregate or concrete. Rolling should follow once aggregate is pressed and the surface leveled.
5. Washing and Brushing
This is the most straightforward and oldest technique for exposing aggregate. No special tool is needed and all that is required is washing off the surface mortar with water and broom. The broom helps to scrub off the cement until the desires aggregate depth is achieved. The important thing is to time the procedure. It is commonly used in small scale operations hence suitable for a home patio. To avoid dislodging or overexposing the aggregate, a stiff broom with nylon bristles is used to test removal of surface mortar in a small area. The time allowed before brushing depends on the climatic conditions. Brushes and brooms are used to wash excess concrete off the surface. The process begins with a light water wash. This is continued until most of the aggregate is exposed and the original color becomes visible. The ideal aggregate finish consists of the top surfaces of the stones exposed while the rest hidden inside the concrete.
6. Finishing
Concrete should be allowed to cure naturally. Then sealers can be added to enhance its beauty.
